A family visa renewal is the official process of extending the legal residency of a resident’s dependent family members, such as a spouse or children, before their current permit expires. The procedure typically requires the sponsor to provide valid identification, proof of adequate housing like an Ejari or tenancy contract, and proof of income, while dependents aged 18 and above must complete a medical fitness test, update their health insurance, and renew their Emirates ID.

Biometric verification is mandatory for any UAE resident who has completed 15 years of age. When a dependent transitions into this age bracket during an Emirates ID renewal or first-time application, they are legally required to provide their biometric data, which includes scanning all ten fingerprints, capturing a facial scan, and recording a digital signature. 15-year-olds must physically visit an authorized ICP Customer Happiness Center or a designated service center to complete this step. Once you submit the renewal application online via the ICP platform or through a typing center, the system will generate a registration form or send an SMS notification directing the teenager to complete their biometrics. You must bring the original passport, the printed registration form, and the current Emirates ID to the appointment. The overall renewal application remains paused, and the physical card will not be printed or issued until the biometrics are successfully captured.
